Scope

The conference deals with strongly correlated electron systems (SCES). The emphasis is on the unifying concepts that pertain to most, if not all, electron systems with short-range Coulomb interactions. These materials exhibit various remarkable anomalous behaviors, posing many difficult experimental and theoretical questions. The meeting would like to bring together the experimental and theoretical physicists working on the problem of strong electron correlation and would like to achieve the following.

• To summarise the most interesting recent experimental and theoretical results relevant to strongly correlated systems.
• To review and discuss novel theoretical and experimental methods that are used in the studies of electron correlations.
• To identify the similarities and differences between various correlated systems that might be relevant for future research.
• To examine how close the experiments and theory come together, and to explore what is coming next.

The aim of the meeting is not so much to offer the ‘present day solution’ of various anomalies observed in strongly correlated systems but, rather, to characterize and describe these anomalies, so as to identify common elements in experimental results. In addition to the many-body aspects of the problem of electron correlations, we would like to discuss recent improvements in band-structure calculations as well.
